Over the last decade we have seen several of the largest exchanges consolidate to remain competitive in the new global economy. Revenues from trading activity and declining listing fees have forced exchanges into consolidation to compete against electronic exchanges and programmed trading.
Many of the worlds largest companies that are public often times are listed on dual exchanges. Generally their home countries exchange and a United States exchange, such as NYSE or NASDAQ – this is generally called an ADR – (American Deposit Receipt).
